Rewiring a 115 V router for 230 volts?

I have a Porter Cable 3 1/4 HP single speed router that I'm having trouble finding an affordable VFD for. The 15 amp rating is more than most 115 volt VFDs can handle. Can Porter Cable 115 volt routers be rewired for 230 volt operation?

Buy me a Beer?

Usually it will have that information in the terminal box, The amount of terminations usually indicate it also.
I am assuming this is a 3 phase unit?

The router is a single phase Porter Cable. I thought someone may know if the 230 volt European routers are the same unit with the field windings wired in series, while the 115 volt units have the field windings wired in parallel.

It most likely is a Universal series motor, the field will already be in series with the armature.
The are made for either 120 or 240, the only thing you can use to vary speed is a Triac style speed control, the torque will drop with rpm though.

Hi johnmac

As the other posts have said if your router is not 3 phase you will have a hard time trying to find a VFD to run your single phase router

Thanks for the replies. I did find one at cnc4pc.com. It can be controlled directly from Mach. The only problem is the amp rating is the same as my router motor. I would feel a lot better if the VFD had a few extra amps as a safety margin.
