solenoid valve for atc

Can anyone tell me if I can use a 12 volt 3 way 2 position single solenoid valve to operate a spring return air cylinder for an auto tool changer (following the great "Hoss" instructions)Or do I have to use 110 volt? I have a Mini IO bob with Vampires.And what solid state relay do I need?

Any help would be greatly appreciated GED

I ve already purchased the Bimba air cyl (4 bucks) and the EMC VC82,3 way,2 position 12 v dc solenoid from Princess Auto and I was just hoping I could still use it if I used a 12 volt ac adapter or other 12 volt supply.

Sure, if you already have it, why not? As long as it turns the air on and off. But the DC relay only handles AC, so you will have to relay your primary 120AC Voltage to the 12V PSU.

Seems overly complex to me. I would just buy the 120V solonoid and have fewer connections to fail.
