A joyous day......Not to be

I had a day off today so I thought I would get my mill fired up. I have been working to convert a RF31 clone for about 2 years now (wow have I really been that lazy?) and was hoping to get it finished today. I have all the mechanicals done and was finishing up the wiring today. When I powered up the electricals today, I could hear and feel the motors lock up, but not as strongly as I would have throught (these are 1200 oz/in dual shaft - i can turn them with a set of vice grips on the end of them but not by hand so maybe they are ok). I turned on the computer running turbocnc and was hoping to get a bit of movement today but am unable to get any of the axis to move.

I set all the ports in turbo cnc to what I thought they should be. I was using this computer on my router for the past couple of years with good success, but that will be ran with MACH 3 soon so I stole it for my mill now.

Odd thing when powering up the controller was that my radio which is about 30 feet away got very staticy. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not. I used the same wiring for my router as I did my mill, so I doubt the actual wires are causing interference, but I know it should not be like that.

Components used are a keling 48V power supply, gecko 203's, cnc4pc BOB, a 5V power supply from MPJA and 1200 oz/in dual shaft. steppers from Homeshop CNC. I can get the limit switches to work. Small victory at least.

So what could be causing the interference and could this be causing my problem with no movement on the 3 axis ?

I have port 2,4,6 set to step for x,y,z respectively
ports 3,5,7 set for direction for x,y,z respectively.

I have played with the active high / low settings with no luck.

Anyone got any hints on how to the use port monitor? Did not quite understand what I was looking for in there.

Suggestions? Troubleshooting?

I am thinking either the interference, or I am missing a setting in TurboCNC, but most likely the interference issue.

Thanks all

Dan

Update and good news

Went back out and fiddled with it some more. Could not get rid of the noise, but turned the radio off so it wouldn't drive me crazy. The good news is I was able to get movement from all 3 axis. A bit spratic at first, but now it is pretty smooth. I had a couple of items set wrong in the configuration. I had forgotten a coule of areas in TCNC that needed addressed with new machine setups.

Anyways, any thoughts in the noise? I wold like to get rid of it so I can listen to the radio still while the mill is on. Minor issue though.

I have a couple of other issues to address, but will ask in another forum

Thanks all.

Dan
