need help on stepper drive

I build stepper driver using L297 and L6203.
I test it using 24v power supply.

the ciruit work, but my voltage regulator (LM317T) get quite hot after a while, can somebody help me with this problem?

You have 19 Volts accross the regulator times the current consumed by the following circuits= power = heat production!
Do you have any cooling fin on the regulator?

yes, I put heat sink but small one, since the +5v circuit only take current about 0.7A.

I have been use LM7805, LM317 chip with higher input voltage (32V) and higher current on circuit (1.2A) but I never get heat so hot like now and it happend after quite long time eg. 1 hour.
In my current circuit, it only take 30 sec to get hot.

any idea?

You will get a lot of heat when you are dropping a lot of voltage 24-5 is a lot. ALso you are pulling a decent amoutn of current through it. Just put a big to-220 heatsink on it and you will be fine.
