Hello, I'm in an E.E. Sr. Design Lab and we hope to build a 2-axis cnc machine as our project. My quesiton is how does G-code translate into electronics (IC, Micro-controller, PC)? Is there an industry-standard approach? S. Stoene |

| The NC (numeric controller) takes the g-code and converters it into pulses that, than get feed into the drivers that sends info to the stepper/servos. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

G-Codes basically consist of movement (multiple axis) instruction as well switching instruction for spindle, coolant, etc. Your 'translator' will have to read the G-Code and electronically control the respective devices (stepper motor, servo, relays, etc)

| Since you are in and E.E. Major you should check out the Open Source Controllers Forum. Check out the designs in there, they may give you a better understanding or starting point for learning how software translates g-code into pulses that the circuits translate into step and direction signals.
