Hi, I have a table that is raised and lowered by a small DC gear-motor and XL belt. I would like to add an encoder to get a read out of numbers so I can position it without having to use a tape measure. The read out does not have to be inches just numbers will be fine as I can relate a count of say 1245 to 4" etc. When I need it at 4" I can just run it to read a count of 1245. Inches would be nice but not really needed. Anyone know of a low cost kit that will do this? Thanks in advance. Dave |

| There is a low cost way of doing it with an encoder and any old PC. http://www.lindsayengraving.com/othe...rests/dro.html The latest link software works good, and I have input the encoder direct, no transistors. Al.

Thanks for that Al, but I would have to reset it to the top or bottom every time I turn on the computer. Also my printer port is in use and I would need another LPT port card. I think I will go lo-tech and just cut a bit of tape measure off and glue it to a stick. I can get a tape from dollar tree for a buck. ![]() Dave |
