I'm converting a HF mill mini to cnc. However I'm a complete newb when it comes to the electronics. I've tried to read some of the white papers, but honestly I'm completely lost. I need a step by step guide to what I need. I plan on using a nema 23 size steppers. I'd like to have minimal of 150oz, but would not be opposed to smaller. Assuming the drivers could handle the upgrade later. I'm not 100% sure if I should be uni or bipolar. I don't know the benefits or limitations of them. Cost is an issue, but not a terrible one. ((I'd like to have a full list of parts, so there are no "gotchas" later.)) A decent feed rate would be nice, but this is for prototyping in aluminum. I'm fairly decent with a soldiering iron and can follow a wiring schematic. However a pretested board may be better for the initial run. So I need a driver board(s) with or without lpt breakout, board/motor wiring, power supply, motors? I'm slowly starting to get a grasp on what is needed/suggested, but any help would be great. Thanks, |

| Personally I think 150 direct drive is not enough for that mill, In my case I'm using 200+ geared 2:1 servos. I also converted everything to ball screw.

| Hmm, I considered using a ratio to motor, and may end up that way. Right now, I'm just at the point where I'd like to see the mill do more than pick up dust. = ) Currently looking at the Tamagawa 282 Oz Steppers off ebay, but in all honestly. I'm just wandering around blindly. (grins) |
