| i am wondering if anyone knows of a treadmill controler that will handle a 120volt dc motor that pull up to 21 amps? what is the differance between a treadmill motor & a universal motor? i was told that a 20 amp router contrpl would work but it ruined the router control. thanks greg |

| A treadmill motor is a bit of a Generic term, I have found them to be anything from a crude DC motor to a Servo grade motor and a Universal motor. But I assume you are referring to the large DC ones now available. A router controller is usually built for a Universal motor run in the AC mode, and are Triac (AC) Based, A DC motor is built strictly for DC and a Universal will run on AC or DC. Both are equipped with brushes. But a straight DC motor cannot be run off of a Triac device of this sort. You can look at KB or Baldor SCR drives for one of the cheapest solutions, however as they act across the AC line, the output may not reach a full 120vdc, but I have found that they will produce sufficient torque for most spindle applications, however.
