Need help on locating magnetically soft steel. NOT Ferrite material like FeSi or Sendust. I'm looking for the type material used for solenoid pushers, motor armatures etc. Polarizes aggressively (hi perme/low coer) in a field then once the field is removed, the materials residual polarity dies in micro secs to nearly nothing. It's usually a stainless alloy like 18-2. But 18-2 is unobtainium. Or is there a heat treat state that can cause this and an alloy like 17-4 can be used? TIA. FT |

| So you are looking for Silicon Steel (iron with about a 3% Silicon content) used in transformer laminations. If a long thin sheet will work for you, pull apart an old Variac autotransformer. The core is generally tape wound Silicon Steel. Steve |

| Looking for bar stock to actually make solenoid plungers. I need to shape them with a 50 or 90deg conical. Some companys simply use cold rolled xx?? nickle plated. I posed the question to one of the leading solenoid manufacturers and the reply was,"cold rolled steel, nickle plated". Okay!!! What type CRS? FT |
