Hello, I'm involved in a reverse engineering project for 20 custom electronics enclosures. The painted faceplates and buttons have black lettering/graphics which I need to replicate. I have the artwork on file. I need to explore different methods of applying the letters. Searching web reveals laser printing/heat transfer method and laser/water decal. Looks like the heat transfer method would allow me the closest duplication. Many of you have much more experience in prototype panels than I do. Any other methods/comments? Thanks, moldmker |

| Hi: Sometimes we anodize the panels (after machining), and then engrave (on the VMC)through the anodized coating (.003-.005 deep) a carbide endgraving tool. It looks trick, and is reasonably fast. regards

| moldmker- Another option is to fill in the machined grooves with a colored epoxy to prevent oxidation. If you use a thin epoxy, and heat the part, it will flow nicely and come out almost flat with the top surface. NEATman |

| I should add this, the faceplates are .035" thick steel formed to slight arch. I think I will be limited to a transfer process. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks, moldmker edit: I just saw the other thread on inkjetting PCBs. Had to chuckle, that was one option we joked about! |
