AC powered drives

I'm at the beginning of a retrofit of a Bandit controller.

I've deemed it correct to replace the drives and keep the servos. I'm looking at AMC's line. I was going down the road of keeping the PS in the Bandit - BUT it being huge and old, maybe removing the 50 pound transformer, and the small board on the heatsink next to the existing drivers is the way to go.

Looking at the drives brought up this idea since the drives are offered in a 30-270 volt AC input range. I'll need a smaller PS for the I/O relays and lights and such.

These drives (e.g. BE25A20AC) don't need a massive DC supply, right? All power it outputs and uses internally comes in on the AC line, yes?

I've designed and brought to production lots of electronic and electrical devices but this area is new to me.

Al, looking at the above AMC tech sheet, it has 3 outputs to the motor (brushless?). Is this usable with a brushed motor??

Suggs appreciated,

Nelson

Buy me a Beer?

The 25A20AC will accept up to 120vac in, depending on what DC motor supply you require.
They are essentially BLDC, but if the commutation is set for 60°, you can run a DC brushed off of phase A & B.

Thanks, Al

There are some on eBay (with some additional suffixes) for $70 - but I will probably buy new.

What do you think of my tack on this? (Pulling the PS and all)?

Unless you need the space etc, I usually tend to favour keeping big linear supplies, they tend to last for ever.
I might use one c/w with PS if it is just a single amp, but for multiples I keep the linear.
If buying new it runs a bit cheaper.
