Won't start, motor or circuit board? My craftex mini lathe stalled and won't restart. It is a 120 volt DC variable speed. It did it twice before and I took out the circuit board, did nothing to it & reinstalled it & it worked. I don't know anything about electronics but I'm willing to run tests with a volt/ohm meter to try & resolve this problem. Can anyone direct me as to where to start, the motor or the circuit board? I would really appreciate any input as I really love this little lathe. Thank you all in advance for any help you can give me. Sincerely, Basalt. |

| Hi basalt. Welcome to the Zone! This is probably a standard sieg mini lathe like the Harbor Freight 7x10. All parts are available at Little Machine Shop. http://littlemachineshop.com/product...ast=mini+lathe Here's a TS guide: http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_lathe...ot/trshoot.htm If all else fails, and the problem is the speed controller board, then Uncle Rabid can fix it for you. | Basalt, Welcome to the Zone! If the motor is being overworked and it overheats the thermal overload in the motor may be tripping. When the motor cools of it works again. When it happens again try using a fan to cool it and see if that makes a difference. Jeff Alessi |

| Check to see if any board components are hot to touch, does it work after cooling off? You can test the motor by hooking up to a high capacity DC source, an automotive battery will give you an indication. If you have to replace the board, I would look at one of the KB or Baldor DC drives, they come up on ebay frequently, I suspect they have a bit more electronics and also LED indicator as to status, compared to the original types shown in the previous links.
