Very old monitors had a RG59u connector or a RCA phone jack, These have cga Composite signal, practically all have been scrapped by now, you may be lucky by trying a computer recycle store if you have any in your area.

The vdu screen on my Boxford ACL CNC lathe aint working.the cable to the tube is a normal coax cable I tried plugging in a TV but it must run on a different signal.can anyone advise?can I connect a PC monitor.or tune in the portable tv. its a phillips tube it uses.

When you say you plugged it into a TV do you mean antena in or video in.
If it is going to work it will have to be video in.
This is the case on Allen Bradley 8200 and 8400's CNC controls.
