Hello is anyone familiar with IMS (Intelligent Motion Systems) drivers. I have seen them on ebay and would like to know how they work. I am getting gun shy about drivers on ebay. sometimes it seems like a good deal then when you get them they are not all they are cracked up to be.

| Im483's are exceptional drivers. They are really, really tough and have a lot of nice features built in, as they were designed for industrial applications. I would suggest that you download the manual from Intelligent Motion to really understand. A couple words of caution; You really don't want the 483IE model at all. It is a different ball of wax entirely, and not what you need. Secondly, one of the basic 483 models has screw connectors, easy but limited in function. The real winners are the other models of basic 483, but they require some strange connectors to run all of its extra options, and if they don't have a breakout board included you'll need to wire up your own connectors (easy, cheap, and the parts available from Mouser and the like.). These things used to be unbeatable deals when you could pick up boxes of them as new surplus cheap, especially for a 4a/40v driver, and especially with that many options. Nowadays people have caught on to how cool they can be, which means they are now often selling for $50-$75 each for any ratty old untested industrial pull, and way more for new. Unfortunately this puts them right into the price category of cheaper quality but brand-new Chinese stand-alone drivers like the MCP and Keling offerings, and soon the new cheap Gecko drive which will likely be just as awesome. So as much as I love them, the prices have begun to push the smart choices over into other units. Unless you get them in matched sets, and unless they are either guaranteed, cheap, or both, they might not be the best deal anymore unfortunately. If you do find some though you won't regret it!
