How much will the motor be affected if I were to bore out the rotor of a ac induction motor to fit a thicker shaft? Now the shaft is 30mm the aluminum starts at 50mm it would be nice to bore it to 48mm. Here is a cutaway, I want to get as close to the cast aluminum conductors (fins) as possible. http://www.ieee-kc.org/images/motors...%20cutaway.jpg

| I would imagine that you should be OK but if you are cutting into the lamination part, it may influence the stator specs. Why do you have to do it that way, is there no way you can sleeve the existing shaft? Also you bearings and bearing housing will have to be increased, no? Al.

| I need to have another shaft going through the center of the motor shaft. It will have different end plates for the bearings. Off to experimenting will post back what I come up with.

| Dennis, Are you looking at doing a concentric shaft counter rotating system ?? I have to periodicly balance at large counter rotating coal crusher system (two 200 HP motors) but it is fortunately belt driven. It would really be a pain if it were direct drive. Steve |
