How are you guys Mounting your Circuit Boards

    Hi all,
I was just wondering how to properly mount a driver board on wood or metal. I have a Xylotex board, I know that won't make much difference. I read on the pdf at the Xylotex website that you have to use plastic washers, I'm pretty sure you can use ordinary metal screws. I'm not sure if something will go wrong if the screw touches the metal on the board accidentally.
    Thank you soo much everyone.
    I really appreciate it.

I don't want to do something in a rush, and mess it all up.
    Thanks.

Electronic stores sell little plastic spacers to lift the board and clear the component tails, and soft insulating washers to go under the metal screw heads.

Boards are pretty robust, so as long as you don't use a gorilla grip to crank up the screws you will be fine.

I went the really "Nervous-Nelly" route. Mounted to a piece of scrap plastic (used to be top cover for a scanner) using nylon machine screws, spacers, and nuts. Then mounted that assembly to the bottom of a pc case. I'll add a pictute if that helps (gotta find it).

I usually use dowel rod (wood or plastic) cut to length and ends drilled and tapped as standoffs. A cheap source for light duty rod is plastic clothes hangers. Pretty soft and very easy to work with common handtools. It's no good for hi-temp use (softens in boiling water), but for a quick fix it works.
I'm careful about checking screw heads for mechanical and electrical interference on the boards. If there is any question I use nylon.

    robotic regards,

    Tom

Thanks guys. I have some nice little plastic washers, and I will probably use wooden dowel to raise the board, and then put a metal screw in it. I'm not sure about using metal scews. I think I should be safe with this method. I HOPE!!!!!!
