Hi all sorry for what mite be a silly question but what is the difference between amps/phase and peak? I have a bi-poler motor rated at 3A/phase 3.6v and was looking at a 5042 driver from www.ms-motor.com which will do 50v at 4.2A peak is this OK? Last edited by woodlice; 02-26-2008 at 01:03 PM. | Your motors should be fine with that driver. Simple terms, phase is a coil winding, so a 2 phase motor will have two coils. The motor rating at 3A/phase means that it can have 3A continious DC current in each phase and be ok. Not that it has to be driven with each phase at 3A, which a microstepping driver won't do most of the time.
