Router Motor Questions

First a little background to the questions. I have a Grizzly Variable speed 1hp wood router, and, a Ryobi Trimmer Router 3/4hp. The Griz is odd shaped and that makes it a chore to build a mount for my gantry,and the Ryobi is round which simplifys the process. Can I take the speed reducing circuit from the Grizzly and install it in the Ryobi. I don't know diddly about electricity so be easy on me.

I think this would be much more trouble than it's worth. You can get a router speed control usually for less than $20. I have one and use it quite often.

My experience has been that the builtin circuits in my routers (Makita, and Milwaukee) work much better than the external addons. The addon version does not maintain full power like the built in.

My next concern is what would be the effects of using one long term. I don't mean 8hrs a day but over it's lifetime. I'm only planning hobbyist usage not heavy duty work.
