Logic level gate MOSFET's instead of bootstrap circuit

As the title suggest's, I have found MOSFET's with logic level gate's, I am sure they have been around for ages, but I have just found out about them.

For instance a IRL540N has basically the same RDS on, voltage and current values as the IRF540N but with a (5Volt) Logic level gate, and from reading through the datasheet it looks like it could be used for a high side driver without the need for any bootstrap circuitry, or dedicated driver chip for that matter.

Would this be correct or am I just geting excited about nothing ? I realise that care would still be needed to avoid shoot-thru conditions but still...

I attached the datasheet to save a little time for anybody reading this.

Sorry, but I don't think that will work. It still needs a positive voltage on the gate relative to the source so you do need some kind of bootstrap circuit if it is to be used as high side switch.

The logic level reference is relative to gate to source voltage being able to be switched with 5V logic. If the source is not at 9V, the gate still needs to be above the source voltage by the turn on level. So the high side drive for an H bridge is still the same issue as non logic level mosfets.

Ahh, as usual I put two and two together and got five

I still put a handful in with an order I just did as they would be handy for microcontroller applications.
