I have a transformer from a 1.25kw microwave oven and want to rewind the secondary to give 24 vac at 10 amps or better. I've read lots of posts and tried to figure out what gauge wire and insulation I need so that overheating at heavy loads will not be an issue. I am building a routing system using 3 Axis HCNCPROPKG w/ 3 305oz-in 4.2V 3A Steppers from HobbyCNC.com. From what I have been able to glean, I need somewhere in the range of 12 to 16 awg wire but I don't know about the insulation type and heat dissapation. Is there a cheap, readily available wire that would suit? Possibly single strand 14 awg as sold in building centers? I would appreciate help with this. I have enough electronics knowledge to be dangerous. Thanks, John. |

| It is best for optimum use of space to use single stand enameled wire particularly when working with those gauges. I would try paying a visit to the local rewind shop and see if they can oblige with a few feet, or the remains of drum. Al.

| I have also gotten some of my 14 ga wire from MPJA.com or Surplus Sales of Nebraska. As Al says, it gets tight in there and normal pvc insulation takes up a lot of space. Also, the "magnet" wire is rated for a higher temperature.
