hello cnczone im working on a cnc mill and now ready to pick up a power supply for my servos/drive boards (granite drives) . i need 170vdc and 3 amp output for my power supply with a 120Vac input . where would i find one , or diy plans . any info would be VERY helpful please keep in mind im a cnc newbie thanks alot mike |

| There is many previous posts here on building power supplies. A source of Toroidal transformers is ebay, there is a seller that make them in various voltages. 3 amps does not seem much for servo PS? Al.

| Ok, with those motors you may be OK, if you are looking for 170vdc as in your first post, then conveniently that would be ~120v AC, so you could get away with a 750va 120/120 isolation transformer, these are quite readily available in the cheaper square lamination type. Al.

| hello one last question . i called around looking for the 750va 120/120 isolation transformer . i way its was explained to me was it would output 120Vac . dont i need the output to be in Vdc ? im sorry im confused .i found the above listed tranformer for good price , just need to be sure i understand this correct before i spend the cash .or do i need other parts to complete the supply , i have been trying to find the answers but im lost . thanks for any info to help this newb out mike |

| You need to search here and elswhere for PS building, You will need to add at minimum, a bridge rectifier and a suitable Electrolytic capacitor. The bridge does not cost that much, you need a 10amp 250v rating minimum. And a 250v 2000ufd Capacitor. Al.
