I bought a 1984 daewoo puma 10 CNC lathe. I only have single phase 220v running in the garage. Now I have looked at all types of 3 phase converters made by all types of companies. I ve called a few and I tell them I need a cnc rotory converter to run my 15/20hp-30 min. motor. I would think that I could run a 25hp phase converter to cover the other things drawing power like the coolant pumps etc. Some of the places tell me I will need a 30-40hp to run it. I would really like to know if anyone has had any past problems doing it this way, and if a 25hp will work with no problems. I have also thought about making one. Please help. |

| The spindle motor is capable of 20hp for limited time, 30min, so if you want to run the spindle at the limit, 25hp might be marginal when you consider that if the spindle is drawing high current, then in all probability the servo/s are as well. I assume you have a spindle controller on the machine so the only motors fed direct would be coolant and Hydraulics if you had any. Look at the machine name plate Kva rating for another indication of the size you need. There have been past post here on building as well as quite a few other groups. Al.
