What is the oppinion of using a large 1000 oz stepper for the Z axis while using 600 oz servos for the rest of the axises? Industrial Hobbies makes a good point about the raw power at low RPM for steppers. Any opinions? |

| I purchased the Industrial Hobbies x,y,z kit for a lathemaster mill, I just assembled the full head Z axis tonight e.g. I just lifted all that iron so its fresh in my mind and aching muscles. The head is very heavy, about 230 pounds. The dovetale slide is another 20 and the cast iron motor has to be 20-30. So you are looking to move upwards of 270-280 pounds vertically and its hanging out over the table a good 15 inches. The kit comes with a 1200 oz motor, I don't know anything about motors but having lifted all this iron tonight I'd go with a big mother of a motor if I were you. :-) |
