I am wondering about single phase to 3 phase conversions with a Y-Configuration motor. I spoke with an electrician today and he said if I had a motor with a Y config. and it was 120/208 he could easily wire it to a single phase 220 volt circuit. He said I would not need a converter, lose horsepower or need a capacitor for start up. Are the majority of all Bridgeport motors wired the same and what configuration?? Any experience / thoughts on this approach? Thanks Steve |

| Did you ask him how he intends to do it, to get a motor to rotate you must have a rotating field as in 3 phases, in single phase the field does not rotate so you have to introduce some artificial way of getting a rotating field, i.e. split phase motor (offset winding) or capacitive start type. I would be interested in how he achieves this with a regular 3ph motor. Al
