MC-70AW treadmill controller

Is anyone familiar with this controller?
I got it off of a treadmill with the motor and I can get the motor to run but it trips out after a few seconds.
If I put resistance on the motor (by holding the shaft ) it will not trip out .
Is there a way to overcome this by inserting a resistor or such somewhere on the board.

I put a treadmill motor and controller on an old Southbend 9" a while ago. What I did was to fabricate a box that held both the motor and controller board. I put a power cord connector, fuse holder, on/off switch, pilot light, direction switch, and speed control pot on the face of the box that was forward. I put a big muffin fan with a foam air filter on the side of the box that was opposite the side that the motor came out of. I cut the side of the box for the motor shaft to hang out of. This cutout was the size of the motor outline because I wanted cooling air to flow out through and past the motor. The box got mounted up on the idler pulley platform.

When I wired the box, the power connector went to the fuseholder then the on/off switch. The switched side of the on/off switch got routed to the speed control board and the fan in parallel. The Input power connector ground connection got wired to the box. The DPDT direction switch was connected between the motor and the speed control and the motor. The motor tach sensor was connected to the speed control board and the speed control pot was connected to the speed control board.

The pulley that was driven by the belt off the motor was replaced by one about 3X the original size because the treadmill motor was rated at about 5700RPM instead of the 1800 RPM motor I removed.

It worked pretty well. I think the motor was marked 1.5HP, but it was a pretty small motor for 1.5HP. The motor and controller board were bought together on the surplus market, so they were compatible with each other. The two treadmill controllers I have seen were designed to drive a 180V DC motor if I remember right, but it might have been a 90V DC motor.

Good Luck,
BobH
