I have access to two large AC servo motors for a GOOD price. Is there a drive that can support them? Or does the cost outweigh just getting some DC motors and drives. My plan is to outfit my Bridgeport 9x42 mill to CNC. If a drive is available at a decent price for the AC motors, that is 2 motors I don't need to buy. What is main reason people don't use AC servos?  |

| What type and make are the motors ? AC servo's use various ways of electronic commutation which is not required on DC servo's making it somewhat more difficult to match an amplifier, also there are two basic types of AC servo, DC Brushless and AC sinusoidal. Post the make/model you have for more assistance. Al BTW a matched AC servo setup is the preferred way to go, due to no brushes, lower inertia and higher max, rpm.
