    windows dro

    is there a windows based dro out there so i can take advantage of old tablet pc? I would love to use touch screen for this stuff, ideas out there?

    There is a previous post about this, where I found you could input an encoder direct without the buffer transistors.

    I was hope to use regular scales and not encoders?

    The output method (quadrature signal) from scales are often identical to rotary encoders, just make sure they are 5v square wave signal.

    do you know of anything like a break-in board for something like this? You know the opposite of a break out board?

    You don't really need a break out board as the encoders/scales should go direct into the parallel port if they equipped with TTL line drivers.
    But you can get IDC ribbon to screw terminal connectors from any of the electrical terminal manufacturers.

    then i gues the real question is there existing software that i can et that would give the functions of a dro without having to do the programming...i hate programmig..... i really hate programming

    Yeh, but he said "windows" based and the program is "dos" based! Remember we went through this a few weeks back and finally concluded the gentleman in question was trying to run in a "dos box" and as soon as he went to pure dos, things started working!

    what i am trying to make is a kind of measuring table, like the quality control systems that i have seen. I am thinking about using a surface plate and linear guides and encoders, so i gues i am trying to do more than a dro. thoughts or laughter ae re welcome

    As long as you do not want to store data or move the mechanism under control of the program, then it should work for you, depends on measuring accuracy desired, and will depend on the precision of your mechanical set up.
    As stated, this is a DOS program, but if all you want to do is measure then this may work for you.
