What IC for driving Bipolar motor.

Can someone please tell me which drivers should I use for driving bipolar stepper motors with 4 wires, current up to 2A max!!! What about LM297,LM298 pair???
I need some driver that is very simple and that can operate whith only fiew wires controlled from microcontroller. For example: Pulse, direction, mode(half step, normal step) I don't need wave mode or PWM.
What is the most used IC for driving the bipolar CNC motors.

Is there somethink like this???

Allegro a3977 will do what you want and more. Take a look at the open source controller section.

Not sure if it is what you want but I have used an MC3479 for a bipolar stepper.
