I have searched high and low on the Zone, and the internet but can't find some information. I have built power supplies for my CNC machines, and understand how to change the voltage of AC using a transformer. What I'm trying to do is increase the frequency, from 60 Hz on up. I know about VFD's, but I'm not looking to varry the frequency. I need it at a certain value, say 360 Hz, and it will remain there. Is this possible? I'm looking to build this myself if possible, but it all the components are a couple hundred dollars, I can just get a VFD for that. I'm just wondering if there's a simple way, like building a power supply. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! |

| You did not state the power you need or the application. How stable etc? 1phase 3 Phase? I don't think you are going to build anything with a fair amount of sophistication for nothing, however. Can you not use a VFD programmed for a particular frequency output? Al.

| I'm only needing at most 3 HP. About 2Kw. If I can go bigger, that's fine. Yes, you can program the VFD for a certain frequency, but if I can build what I need for 50 bucks, instead of spending 300, that's what I'm after. I'm basically building a motor, that will be water chilled, and for high speed. |

| Buy the VFD - you won't be able to produce a 2.2kW inverter for less than the cost of a commercial unit. The development cost will be dramatically increased by the number of components that you explode (and yes you WILL explode a few). At 240 volts, the motor is going to draw ~5.4 amps per phase. That doesn't seem like a lot until motor inductance beats you up every time you try to switch. Aaron |
