how does the elctronics of a CNC machine work?

hello,

We are 2 students Bachelor Elektromechanics how live in belguim
Are thesis handles over a vertical CNC-machine Takisawa MAC V1E. our goal is to optimalize the machine and write a book over the functioning of hte machine. there are several question about the functioning of the machine

PLEASE correct me if i'm wrong

1. 3-axis servo amplifier DU2 (first picture)

I think this is for the controling of the servo motors
on top of the servo amplifiere zien we de velocity control unit (i think this to control the velocity of the machine, so the machine won't break himself)

2.spindle servo unit (third picture)

I think is for controlling the spindle speed.

3.Master PCB (second picture)

this is the master pCB with 4 other pcb's on (i/o,AXE,power unit,MEM), what is the purpose of the master pcb. Does this master¨PCB controls the servo amplifier with I/O pcb or is it he way around.

if anyone has information about this, please react

Thank you

Buy me a Beer?

This appears to be a Fanuc CNC controller, about a model 10 vintage.
The first photo shows the servo controller, this recieves a position command from the CNC control and which bases the command on an encoder fed back to the control to indicate the actual position of the machine, and moves the servo's accordingly.
The main CNC controller PCB has typically co-processors for operating the CNC/servo/part program side, and also a processor for general machine I/O operations such as tool changers, coolant etc.
The spindle controller, obviously for the spindle motor, can also have encoder feed back to the control for operation such as tapping and helical milling. The controller synchronizes the servo's to the spindle rpm.
The main PCB is the 'Heart' of the system and coordinates the above functions and provides the operator interface and display.
Al.
