Stepper power req's question | | Ok, so I'm just about done with my CNC conversion of my HF mill, I'm getting to the point of the wiring for it the steppers are 180in oz of torque ( supposedly from what I could find ) Nema size 34's
They are rated at 1.7V / 4.7A per phase.... I've got several power supplies that I can use with this.
One that has an output of : up to 12V @ 10A and one that will do up to 48vdc @ 15Amps, upon doing all the reading that I can on the subject I've heard mentioned quite a few times to use a current limiting resistor on the feeds to the motors ..... is this to prevent them from burning up if they get bound up for some reason or another ?? So if this is the correct thinking would I want to use a 5A resistor or something rated for the 4.7 to 4.8a range?? ( you'll have to excuse me, some of my electronics knowhow has gotten fuzzy over the years).
any ideas ?
thanks,
art
I've attached a pic of the stepper... |
