Can someone point me to a supplier who sells the mounting hardware for a torrodial transformer about 6" in diameter. I need it for an upcoming project! Thanks in Advance. Bill from Spartanburg

| Usually they are only supplied with the transformer. I have a whole raft of them left over from Toroids I buy for a product I manufacture, but they are only just over 3" in dia. You can make them easily, normally consisting of a sheet metal disc, dia to extend at least to mid way of the winding, there is a sheet rubber disc that goes on thge bottom and one under the Steel disc, this has a 3/16"dia bolt through the centre to secure it to the chassis, through the centre of the Toroid. The main thing to watch for is that what ever you make does not go through the transformer core and extend over the side back to the chassis, as in a U shape bracket, this is effectively a shorted turn and the toroid will get exceedingly hot. You are welcome to some of the ones I have if you think you can use them. Al.

| Thanks Al! I'll go home and measure the actual transformer tonight. However, I think your mounts may be to small. I'll most likely fabricate one as you recommend. Sounds simple enough. I have to rewind the thing anyway so it's just a bit more work! Have a good weekend. Bill from Spartanburg.

| Go to hardware store, plumbing section, and look for a pipe plug in the right size. They are rubber and make great transformer mounts. None of my toroids have come with a bracket. That's what comes of buying surplus, I suppose! Here is the result: The plug came from Orchard Supply. Best, BW PS Capacitor bracket is another plumbing / pipe bracket from OSH. |
