Hey I was wondering if anyone has delt with these guys and their servo setups. I was planing on using steppers on my mill but now I'm thinking that it would be better to use servos and geckos are a little out of my price range. Also if anyone has done one of these setups is it a full 3D setup or is it just 2 1/2D?

Hello,

That's a surprise. Fred Smith, the owner of IMservice, is usually VERY good about answering questions. You may have caught him at a busy time, vacation, etc...

As to the products; I don;t use them but I've heard good things about them. The software is written by Carl Kendrat of Carken, who also put out Deskam, and some other good products. Actually the DeskCNC might be a combination of Carken's controller and Inserv's CAD CAM, which is called Vector... (AS I said, I don't use DeskCNC, but I HAVE used both Vector AND Several other Carken products.

Still surprised that Fred hasn't responded,

Hope this helps,

Ballendo

DDM,

We have recently had our web services moved from one ISP to another, against our will. :-( This occured sometime late last week.

If you have sent an e-mail and not received an answer, that may be why. At this time all but our user support forum has been reinstated. Please resend any message that has been unanswered.

We do have some serious antispam software in effect and if you cannot get through, you may try the info request/contact form on the www.vectorcad3D.com web site. We do sometimes ignore html only e-mail from unknown sources.

Vector and DeskCNC are in no way related, but are the products of completely different development teams. IMService is the only commonality. We are master distributors for both products.

Vector is a 3D surface design cad-cam for programming lathe, mill, router, and wire EDM/Foam cutting, with optional rotary 4th axis and 3D surface milling. It has integrated RS-232 communications and text editor. Most international, English language customers are referred to IMService at vectorcam.com This product is available to hobbyists and schools at a deep discount.

DeskCNC is a CAM only product ($250) that is a combination of all the Carken products displayed at Deskam.com, plus the enhancement of our Rasterfratz, StlWork lite, and DeskPCB products. It does include the full capabilities of the DeskWinNC windows based machine controller, plus it supports 4th axis rotary, slaved A axis linear, and fully automated probing of 3D surfaces. The result of probing a surface is an .stl file with reverse compensation for probe tip radius.

We are also a Sherline Products dealer and distribute the DeskCNC contact probe/ tool setter ($275), and the 5 amp, 30 v, step and direction controlled, DeskCNC servo drivers ($65 per axis).

Thanks for the replys, I've been looking around for a few months and this is looking like one of the best options for my needs.
Software aside, I've also been looking at the Servo motors for the sherline combo kits and I haven't seen too much for specs. I'm assuming that the output shaft has a max RPM of around 400-500 Rpm with 250 oz/in of torque. I was looking at using them on a system with 1/2 10 tpi acme threads and I was hoping that would be enough torque.

Sorry If this seems a little off topic for this part of the forums

Carl

The Sys-1, Kit-1, and Kit-2 motors are similar to the Pittman express SO15, except with 30vac ratings, 512 line encoders, and rectangular mounting plate.
