Question PLC's on Mattison grinder

Question on GE series 1 plc's
we just bought a used Mattison grinder (87) and the guy who set it up was going to copy the program down from the plc with a "reader" and put it on a cassette tape so we would have it incases of power spikes or surges and we lose our program. The plc has a jack for a tape player in it and switch for run and program. Was his reader just a tape player can I down load this myself.
Does any one know about these plcs.

You can use most cassette recorders for this, although you may have to tweak the tone control.

Another option would be to get a copy of LogicMaster1. This would allow you to load/store the program via a PC. Also, you would be able to view and edit the ladder logic.

GE Fanuc has a user forum you might take a look at...
