| I bought from a surplus yard a (Estern Air Devices) EAD synchronous ac motor. It has 5 leads, all cut off, no terminals no capacitor : Black Yellow Green Red White Nameplate says: VOLTS 220/240 HZ 50 PH1 AMPS .76 CAP 5.0 UF 220VAC RPM 750/1500 DUTY CONT Can someone please help me in wiring connection to AC mains? I want to use this motor to replace the one on a small 9" woodworking bandsaw in order to reduce its induction motor speed for cutting metal. Right using it as is, cutting AL is OK but will feel more comfortable with a reduced speed. Michel |

| Check to see if it is just two separate windings, for e.g. is the green a ground, if you have two windings, they possibly are the same resistance, if so you should be able to connect one winding across the 220, and the other winding connect the cap in series with it, and connect the series'd cap and motor across the 220, to reverse dir., reverse the connection of either winding. I don't believe you will have the power to operate a bandsaw, it appears very small fractional HP. Al.

| What type of Synchronous motor is it? does it feel like a stepper motor, when you turn it over is there heavy resistance felt? Al.

| That could be, but I am puzzled how they attain synchronism? Is it separate exitation? or Variable reluctance type? Al.

| Its obviously a 2pole/4pole motor, but it is not just an induction motor it a synchronous one, which means it should have a separate field produced either externally by DC or internally by shaded pole or other means, in this case, Which? Al.

| Here is a couple of pages of the company web site, if you have a model number there is the hook-up sheets available. http://www.eadmotors.com/pdf/ACmotors_Nov04.pdf http://www.eadmotors.com/getcad.asp?...filesize=1203k The one I show appears to be non-synchronous. Al.
