Anyone have a decent source of flexible, shielded electrical cable? I've priced stuff at Igus, but it was a bit 'rich' for my blood. I looked at microphone/sound system cable but its usually 22awg or smaller I'd like to get 16awg if possible... even some 10awg for my spindle. Thanks in advance.. Jerry

| You may not want to pay the price of 10g shielded, what I do for this size is to use TEW single conductor stranded, twisted together, or even cab-tire (rubber sheathed) and run it in metalic flexible conduit, this acts as a shield. For 16g, I use Beldon 4 conductor with braided shield #9954. The braided style shielded cable is quite a bit more than the foil shield. Look at Belden & Alpha. Al.

| Electrosonic for Belden and Alpha, also check for Anixter or Texcan in your area. Al.

| Hey Al, did you find that the Alpha wire was 'OUT OF THIS WORLD EXPENSIVE'? I just got a quote back that was 3-5 times more money that other suppliers.. I wondering if I got some crazy wire spec for them to price or something.. Strange.... Jerry

| I only buy Alpha if nothing else is available, what is the spec of the cable you are looking for? Also Braided shield is much higher than foil shield. For example 16g 4 cond. braided shield Belden 9954 is $2.00/ft. BTW here is a link for the specialty cable that Belden offers for VFD's, very expensive. http://www.houwire.com/products/belden.asp Like I mentioned in another post, If I have the room and for higher currents, I use T&B SuperFlex metalic conduit with single cond. multi strand TEW. All conductors except ground are twisted together, (bit of a PITA to do tho'). Al.

| The actual product was a 85804CY [ 18ga x 4 cond shielded flex cable] and they wanted $17.17/ft... and for the record.. thats not going to happen.. I can go right to Igus and get it for alot less than that.. [22% of that price] This was through Anixter, I'll look into the Belden wire, is that sold through Anixter as well? The only thing I can think of is somehow I got into some crazy spec wire which is overkill for what I need [ like used inside an induction furnace and made from unobtainium] I could go the metal flex conduit route, but my pride in my design is really dragging its [their?] feet if you know what I mean. Btw, that 16ga x 4 cond shielded for $2.00 is Exactly what I'm looking for, to be used on the motor wires.. I'll keep looking ... Thanks again.. Jerry

| Thats extreme performance stuff! The Belden 9954 is stocked by Newark, I prefer Electrosonic prices but they don't show stock right now. Al.
