i just got some motors and they came with shaft encoders , i don t need the encoders for my machine but ive been wondering if i can use one to create a hand wheel for jogging the xyz axis for mach or emc controller , i was thinking if they send signals to the software showing the position of the motors ,maybe i can send signals as a pendant ,i know nothing about encoders but they are 100ppr/ 400ppr in quadrature (what ever that may mean) is this possible or a pipe dream thanks curt |

| The handwheels fitted to almost all commercial machines are 100p/rev. They are essentially a quadrature encoder, with the added feature of mechanical detent. It would be quadrature x 4 to get the 400p/rev increased resolution when used as an encoder. Al.

| ive done some research on the encoder and this is what ive found http://www.encoder.com/literature/da...-755a-nema.pdf so is a regular handwheel simply an encoder or would i need more hardware to do this |

| You are better off with a line driver output type, often you don't need the complimentary pulses, just the A & B. If they are 5v type nothing else should be needed. Al.

| I can probabally find the pin out, but the software you are using has to be set up for the handwheel feature. Al.
