Computer bootup hangs when connected to Breakout board

Hi All,

I have a 3GHz machine with NetPos PCI ECP Parallel Port connected to the controller via a PMDX-122 breakout board. When I try to boot the PC with the printer cable connecting the PC to the BB, the system hangs at the fisrt XP Pro flash screen well short of the login. It does not seem to matter if the power to the controller is on or not; If the parallel cable is connected, it will not boot--connected, the PC will boot fine.

Anyone encountered this behavior before??

Thanks,

David

set your bios for the parallel port to SPP mode.

Thanks for replying Phil,

This is a PCI Parallel Port card that has nothing to do with the BIOS. And when I look at the card in Device Manager, there is no option for SPP or any such setting. There is a Legacy control option, but to my knowledge this has nothing to do with ECP and such. Am I missing something here??

Any other ideas??

It didn't click with my brain that it was a add on.....suspect you can set it up via changing the registry via regedit. But I can't say I know how. you can invoke regedit via run on your start menu. hikey_local_machine>hardware>devicemap>parallelport
My suggestion would be to search the manufacturer's website or google search or contact the manufacturer. I don't know if this is your problem, but if your wanting to use most of the software for cnc out there, it will need the port in spp anyway. BUt I must say I ould have hoped the hardware and driver would have been robust enough to not hang just because there might be non epp hardare connected to the port.
