I bought a 12vdc 1a wall plug in power supply today to use in my encloser to power a parellel port breakout board and a fan. After getting it home I am reading 16vdc on the output. Is this because of no load? will I have to buy a voltage regulator to control this? Steve |

| The wall wart is traditionally high output, they rely on a load to bring it down, unregulated supply, try it with your load it should drop somewhat. Al.

The load thing is what I thought I read on one of your other posts. If I have to can I regulate this supply? Do you know where I can buy a small multi 12VDC board supply? Steve |

| Can't you use one of the drive connectors on the PC? the yellow is 12v with respect to black. It can't be much current you are looking at. Al.

I did realize the computer had 3.3, 5 and 12vdc. I thought I heard something about interference from these supplies? I have a couple spare computer power supplies lying around but as I said I thought this would be a problem. My computer and my enclosure are separate and I was trying to keep it clean looking. I could build a small supply using the info I found here to build my motor psu just in a smaller format. I just thought it might be almost cheaper and easier to buy a small supply somewhere Steve |

| Hmmm 16vdc wall plug (already have) plus some perf board plus LM2940T-12 in To-220 package plus a few capacitors and maybe a heat sink should give you about 1 amp and 12 volts with relative ease. Check out the application note at National Semiconductor. Parts can be sourced from DigiKey. |

| Fans are pretty tolerant devices, I don't see 13v being a problem. Al.
