    5v for logic...

I was finally able to get the secondary coil of wire out of my microwave transformer. Not a quick tast! (And I only had to ruin a single trans before I got it right ) So I have the 40vac, which should be just under 60v for my geckos. But I want to run a 5v supply from the same transformer also. Do I need a seperate bridge rectifier and cap for this line? I figure if I add it to the bridge running the 40v, it will just add to the current. Am I correct in this thinking. I'll probably just end up using a 5v supply from a computer PS, but just in case. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

It's much better and easier to add a 5 volt power supply especially if you need a few amps. Stepping down 40 VAC can be done, but I wouldn't recommend it.

So, if I understand correctly, I should add another 5v supply from my transformer, and run it to its own bridge rectifier? I believe that's what I'm going to do.

    williamd,
If your referring to the 5V for the input of the gecko, that needs to be isolated so you can keep the common isolated to the pc. Don't use a regulator off off your 60V. Either use the computer power supply, usb connector if you have one on the PC, or a seperate isolated supply.

That probabally only amounts to a 6~8 turn secondary to provide a separate 5v supply, and the gauge will be small if the current is just for Logic.
