The CSD-series drivers are shown in combination with stepper motors in the catalog pages of this document (an Oriental Motor catalog chapter):

    http://www.promotion-ie.de/downloads...e_2-Phasen.pdf

The wiring diagram on page B-190 shows a 6-wire motor hooked up to the driver. So, unless I have missed something important, my best guess is that the driver is not compatible with a 4-wire bipolar motor.

After doing some research about the operation of stepper motors

    How Stepper Motors Work

I think if I connected +A lead of the stepper motor to the driver and the A- to the other two open slots on the board and the same for the B side, it might work but I wouldn't be able to energize half of the motors coils. Maybe I'm overlooking a problem but the animation helps to understand. Could someone give me some incite?

I don't see how that could work.

You would be effectively shorting out half of a unipolar driver with that connection.

I see it would only work running in one direction, that sucks I'll have to get 6 wire steppers if I want to use them. How do the drivers compare with geckos?

Those drivers do not look like they are very sophisticated - for example, they only offer the choice of full steps or half steps, but no microstepping.

From what I can see from the data sheet for that driver you can wire a 4-wire motor to it. It appears that the terminals on the driver board for the motor input are labeled with colors. Red/Blue will be one phase and Black/Green will be the other phase. Don't connect anything to the Yellow/White terminals. If the terminals are labeled with numbers it appears the 1/2 will be one phase and 3/4 will be the other phase. Don't connect anything to the 5/6 terminals.

If you're serious about cnc get the Gecko G540. It's an entirely different class of product and a worthwhile investment.
