cheap stepper driver with spindle output

    Hi,

I recently burned out a hobbyCNC 3 axis driver board, and bought one of the chinese TB6560 boards to replace it.

What I really liked about the TB6560 board was that it had a 4th axis driver because I plan to upgrade the machine with a 4th axis one day. I also liked the fact that the new driver board had outputs for spindle control.

However, I've got through 2 of the chinese boards in as many weeks. I read that they have no back-emf protection, and they just pop ass soon as a motor is plugged in.

I've checked the resistance across the coils in my stepper motors and they all seem fine (1.6 ohms), so I don't think my motors have shorted.

So now I'm looking for a replacement. The hobbyCNC board took 4 years to pop, which I could live with, but the lack of outputs for spindle control really put me off.

Has anybody had good experiences with a cheap driver for about $100?

I'm looking for 4 axis with additional breakouts for spindle on/off and speed control.

I currently have two 3v,3A stepper motors and a 3v,4.2A motor on my machine.

One day I'd like to be able to drive a spindle like this one

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Adam ,

looking at the limited information I have for the HobbyCNC PRO and EZ boards
    printer port outputs pins 1 , 14 , 16 and 17 are unused

to avoid soldering wires to the unused pins on the boards 25way D-type connector
you can use a modified printer cable with third connector to give you a signal to switch a relay board to switch your spindle on and off

    eg
    CNC4PC

and to control a speed control like the one in your link
you may require a frequency to 0-10V converter with an optoisolated input to convert the pulses from your PC to a dc control voltage

PS is the old Hobby cnc printed circuit board undamaged

My first option would be fixing the old Hobby cnc since they do sell spare IC's

There are many that although going with the spindle are using Hitachi VFD's the Huanyang seems to have issues.
There is also a plug in where you can use the RS422 interface for control of your VFD, There is also a Huanyang plug in for it, IF the RS422 IC is fitted to the VFD, in some cases they have not included it.
Going with RS422 save the analogue interface and using up PP outputs.
