im desperate for a solution for my project

im 16 and for my school project i built a 6'x12' table, I used dynatorch drivers and hardware and it works like a charm. Im entering it into an ag mechanics compitition but to show it in the show barn i cant fire up the torch so instead i have a marker apperatus strapped to my torch, the only problem is i cant pick up mid cut so i cant do any crazy designs to really show it off, so if anybody knows any way to solve this problem it would be much appreciated

Congrats, that's impressive building a 6'x12' torch table at 16 yrs old!

I suggest you look for a solenoid, there are an electric magnet that can run from 12 volts and will move 1/4" or maybe 1/2". It should be easy enough to drive from your torch software, and you can just connect the solenoid to raise/lower the marker pen. Try an ebay search for "12 volt solenoid".
