If you are using a momentary P.B. to pick the contactor up, you need a N.O. aux contact on the contactor that is wired in parallel with the P.B.
If you have a latch type E-stop button or similar, you do not need a latch contact.
For the first example you would also need a stop or N.C. Stop P.B.

L1, L2, & L3 tie directly across to T1, T2 & T3. A1 & A2 are for locking the coil therefore completing the circuits. What is the voltage of the coil/contactor? Are you using it for 220V or 120v or something else? Is your PB start momentary? Do you have a latching Estop?

If you have a dual stop/start PB station then you need to wire a N.O. aux latching contact on the contactor in parallel with the start P.B.
See CRM example in the PDF.

This was a picture of me during the set up of mine. It now functions in this sequence. Flip on power (energizes the incoming side of the contactor, if the E Stop is out it also enables power to the momentary switch) upon pressing the momentary switch the contacts are closed allowing power thru all L1-T1 connections etc. A2 gets fed off of the T side thru the E stop switch. Press the E Stop no power to the coils, all power is off.

What make of contactor? many of the DIN style have the option of clipping N.O./N.C. auxiliary contacts on the front.

Thats normal on a dual PB station.
That is why you need the retaining contact.
