    DRO with feedback options?

Need some help locating something that will do this>
I need to have a DRO to display the distance machine traveled. But it will be ~13 feet, so a rotary encoder needs to be used. And so the unit is panel mount. Also will let me set a distance and output a signal once reached.

I dont need high precision. .1 is ok

Brain hurts from thinking and searching

    Thanks in advance!!

What is your required budget, resolution and repeatability? Environment can be a factor too. As if a small rack and pinion(Shooting Star DRO's use this), could be set up in sections to any length. Continuous timing belt secured at each end will idlers at the encoder cog pulley. Trav-a-dial's concept used a wheel riding directly on a face of ground surfaces that was indicator or encoder type.

You might consider a Red Lion PAXI or similar counter display. They have capability to read quadrature encoder signals, scale them and output relays controlled via set points.

i put a gear rack & incrimental encoder on a 42' mill at the best pipe company , years ago.
i think i used a red lon counter on it.
the reading changed about .1" between morning and afternoon when the building warmed up.
    they wanted a 0.1" tolerance ( = 0.05 +/-)

This model does not have quadrature reading capability. Check out the PDF manuals online and do a search for encoder or quadrature inside the file. Nothing shows up, so I doubt it will work for you.

I have used 5v and 12v rotary encoders on a few of their other models. Like the Gemini1, 2 and PAXI. Very cool when you can use the same counter for surface speed, rpm and position if setup with the proper scaling parameters.

Got to this link Red Lion and do a search for Quadrature. Several models will come up with single and dual presets.

    And Presets

You could also call your local distributor and have them recommend one that best suits your application.

After thinking some more, I don't really need a up/down counting unit. The saw will be positioned for the cut and the counter reset and the lenght to cut entered and the cut will start and then end at the set point. It will cut in one direction and one axes at a time. Looks like this one will work: GEM 42100 RATE/COUNTER INDICATOR
