I am retrofitting two Boss 5 machines. They have the 3 phase transformers. If possible I would like to keep these to save costs, and use the PMDX 5020 power module to run three gecko 202's. Can I chop the third phase off these and use 220 single phase? Thanks Scott |

| You'll need 3 phase for the spindle motor unless you're replacing it too. You'd only use 1 of the three phases for 220 or 110 volts. Maris @ Gecko said it'd be ok to use the origional boss 50-56 volt stepper power supplies to run the origional steppers with 202's and resistors in series. 3 phase transformers are just 3 single phase trasformers wrapped into 1 so it's fine to tap any one of them for a single phase feed. Hope this helped. |

| Thanks Al, Elect. I already have the VFD's. I used one on the machine I just retrofitted at work and liked it so much I got two for the Boss5 machines I am doing at home now. Al what are the resistors in series for with the gecko's? I was hoping I could use the Boss transformer, a PMDX power module (I gutted out the Boss DC stuff since I didn't know what was good/bad........it was all ugly) and go right to the gecko's.....is that not the case? Thanks a lot Scott |
