    Stepper jumping back and forth

    Hi
I am trying to get a TB6560AHQ board working with EMC
After a long thread with lots of help at the EMC forums, I have run in to a problem that none had ever seen before.

I have almost tried everything, but on the of chance that someone here might have seen this before, here goes.

The stepper motor moves, but only in small jolts. First CW then CCW and back again.

When jogging in EMC it does it at the same fractions of a mm every so its not just noise.

I have made small crummy video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkNWLgOrw0s]Steppermotor going back and forth. - YouTube

    And some pictures here:

    and

The enable signals are sent and I have tried switching the direction pin for the step pin, with no result other than the motor not moving at all.

So, any suggestions are welcome. By all means, anything you might have, please do tell.
I am willing to try anything at this stage. Mystic rituals and sacrifices to the dark gods of the magic blue smoke. Anything!

recheck your motor wiring, I think you have something in the wrong order.

Thanks for the tip, but I have tried every combination of the motors wirings, and with no better results to show for it.

I have now managed to make another motor move only in the direction it is told. But it is still very choppy and no settings will make it behave.

    Dont know if that helps.

Does the behavior change if you apply a load to the stepper motor shaft? Some motors may have a tendency to vibrate back and forth instead of advancing if the load on the rotor is too small.

What are the specs of your motors (number of wires, winding current, winding inductance)?

How much voltage are you applying to the board?

Is your board rated for 1 amp max or 3 amps max or something else? It looks like your DIP switches are set for the 25% mark, which is not a very effective mode for the TB6560 to run in.

It also looks like the DIP switches are set for 1/2 stepping, which might contribute to the problem if the other settings are somewhat off. Have you tried setting it for single-stepping instead?

How fast (or slow) is your PC sending steps to the board, and what do you have the stepconf pulse timing configurations set to?

Are you sure that you haven't accidentally swapped the step and direction pins? Do you have access to an oscilloscope so that you can monitor the signals being applied to the board?

If you actually did try every combination, then you might have damaged the driver. They're acting like one of the phase isn't on.

Ah, I had forgotten all about this thread. Sorry.

I have it all working now. I think.

H500, spot on! One of the motors measured 0.2ohm in one phase, as oppose to the 1.4ohm on the other and on all the other motors as well.
Turns out it was the guy who sold me the kit that seems to have very little understanding of how to wire anything. To a simple fix, and now it all works well.

Doorknob: You got me thinking so it helped

What actually caused all this was that I thought it was the driverboard as I have seen a few people have problems with these TB6560A-based designs.
I have not selected the board, it came as a part of a larger kit.
But all along I thought the board was to blame and no matter what I tried, it just didn't work.
Not surprising when it was actually the testing motor that had a problem with its wires.

    May thanks for the input
