rs logix for slc 500?

2 questions.

We have a couple old machines with slc 500s,micrologix 1200 and some dinosaurs which I know nothing about with "plc 2/15" and another with a "Plc 5/11". My company has no back ups of the programs or any software.

1. So my questions is what program should I convince them to buy in order to back all of these programs up with and also to use for the future if we want to modify the programs?

2. Second questions is does anyone know any forumwhich may be more appropriate for plc software disscussion and other PLC automation based questions?

The software is not the same for the SLC or the 2/15's etc.
You can get the SLC logix s/w but the 2/15 is getting scarce.
You could check to see if there is an authorized AB rep in your area that would back the files up for you.
There is a dedicated PLC forums out there, or you can ask questions in this forum, there is quite a few people here skilled in the use of PLC's.

al has good point; why not list what city,st ur company is in and see if anyone nearby might offer to come by and backup for you? for instance, if u r in cinti, oh, i know a couple different guys who would do this for a fee.

Im in a small town of Panama City ,Fl.
And these guys here are very cheap and stubborn. It will take months to years to get them to do that if at all. This is why I am trying handle it myself. All I can hope to get from them is the okay to purchase the software. Plus if we can get someone to back it up we wil need to pay them to come and reload if needed. The cost of this would probably be close to buying the software needed,No?

So can any PLC specialist name what software I will need for each? And can they all be run on Windows 7?

Allen Bradly s/w is not cheap, as well as RS Logix and RS Linx you need the serial adapter interface.
For the 5/15 etc that is very old s/w and also needs an interface, I am not sure if there is now a XP or Win 7 for either.
I have the older s/w but the by past experience, the cost will be equal or more for the s/w than getting someone to back it up.
If you do get someone, get them to do a hard copy print out as well as the backup.

RSlogix 500 should work for the micrologix 1200 and the SLC 5/0# processors.

You need to know which version of 500 you need to upload from the processors. You might even be able to install them under a grace period and get the information you need.

Windows 7....good luck with that. AB does not support windwos 7.

So micro logix wont work with the SLC proccessors? NO backwards compatibility?

Do you need to buy multiple licenses for each PLC or once you buy the software you can use it unlimited?

How much typically is RS Logix 500?

And finally I thought RS LinkX was only need for when you want to network PLCS?

You need to use RSlinx to initially set the serial port, remember to remove the driver afterwards otherwise you cannot use the port for other applications.
The older AB 1771 series requires different interface and S/W.
Micro Logix500 works with the SLC series.
When I obtained RSlogix500 it came with a key on a floppy, you can use it on multiple PC's but have to remove the key and reinstall on the other PC.
There is however special Pgm's that will duplicate the floppy.
You would have to check with AB for current pricing.

1. Okay Micro Logix500 is tag based so I can download, upload and edit non tag based programs done with RS Logix with it?

2. What is the software called for the older PLCs?

3. What is the PLC forums you know of?

Buy me a Beer?

For the version I have you need the key for creating or reading existing programs.
You also need the 1747-PIC interface box.
The 2/15 s/w is just a DOS based program called PLC2
