Where to get a good deal on wire?

Everyone uses it, but nobody seems to talk about where they get it.

So, can anyone suggest where to go for a good selection and good price on wire and cabling?

www.surpluscenter.com has great deals on motors (I just bought some of their 1kw servo motors) and I see they also offer wire. Do their prices seem good enough to make it worthwhile to ship? Or do most of you prefer to buy locally at Home Depot, Truvalue Hardware, Radio Shack, etc?

If you have a favorite source, please share it with me, along with which paricular wire or cable you like to buy. For instance, which one is good for limit switches? Or for heavy duty power line? Or shielded encoder cables?

    Thanks in advance!

I buy it buy the spool locally - it's really not all that expensive that way depending on exactly what it is you are looking for. I will buy 500 feet spools of stuff I use from time to time - it will last me sometimes a month, sometimes 2 years....but I have it on hand when I need it.

Home Depot has a good price per foot on 22-four wire shielded I used for encoders, they carry 18-four wire shieled I used for the spindle joining pairs of the 18 gauge....funny, the four wire 18 shielded was small in diameter due to thin outer insulation. I've found 14-two wire shielded on ebay by the foot and also just received 30 feet of 16-two shielded from ebay.
Other times I hit up a local electrical contractor at their shop for wire...they ended up giving me the 20 feet of cable...even though I wanted to pay.

Ebay...This is where the 16 wire is along with this:

LOVE their Teflon wire... And the Prices are great... They are very good to deal with for a smallish site... I've ordered several times there and know many others that frequently order from them as well.
