Can somebody help out a person trying to figure out steppers?

I am having a difficult time trying to setup my stepper motors on my Hobby CNC board.
FIrst i can start off by giving a little background.
I've got Vexta PH 8 wire stepper motors, unipolar.
    The 4 axis HobbyCNC board
    a 24vDC 30Amp power supply.
    Running TUrboCNC
    Set on 1/2 microstep

    Here is whats going on...
I have got two motors wired in, the X and Y axis motors (nothing is connected to machine yet). I went ahead and configured the axes to what I need, i knew nothing about what speeds to put in but the HobbyCNC support group gave some helpful suggestions of what to put in. Well the problem i had before entering these new settings and the problem I have now is that for the X motor, it will go one step clockwise, and another step counter clockwise, when jogging.
THe Y axis goes one step clockwise, one at a time. SO when jogging i have to keep pressing the arrow key. I have it set on continuous mode as well....
I try adjusting the voltage using the variable capacitor but hte motor just howls at me, and sometimes I hear (and feel) this vibration, so obviously thats not good.
Can somebody help to pinpoint my problem? Thanks

Sounds like you have the coils hooked up in the wrong sequence.
